Recycled

The three R’s. You know them well. This basically means second-hand. That could be ‘borrowed’ from your older sister’s wardrobe or ‘saved’ from your best friends ‘charity shop’ bin liner.

Mostly though, we mean the Charity Shop. Oxfam has done a pretty good job in the last couple of years to position themselves as the destination shop for style hounds and fashionistas. They make a real effort to ensure the clothes are of a high quality. A friend recently nabbed a cashmere jumper for a fiver. It takes a keen eye to spot quality fabric and the more practice you put into it, the greater your rewards.

There are second-hand shops, I have a beauty of a secret in north London, which I won’t tell you about, but the manager never takes a garment older than two seasons and she’ll turn her nose up at stuff that is too worn or tired.

Finally, there is the Clothes Swap movement which has gained popularity through the ‘Swishing’ events.
